What’s Up Wednesday #3

What’s Up Wednesday is a weekly meme geared toward readers and writers, allowing us to touch base with blog friends and let them know what’s up. Should you wish to join us, you will find the link widget at the bottom of Jaime’s post. We really hope you will take part!

What I’m Reading

Finish INCARNATE by Jodi Meadows over the weekend. Wow! What a book. Ana’s voice is quiet, so quiet, but is all the more poignant for it. I’m dying to get my hands on ASUNDER, but there’s only one copy on the catalogue—and it has been due back since June. Not going to see it again. Might have to put in another order for one. Hmmm…

The next book on my to-be-read pile was KEEPER OF THE LOST CITIES by Shannon Messenger, but I’ve put that aside for now, as I have CHAMPION by Marie Lu. Yes, finally! The conclusion to Day and June’s story. Gah, I love them so much. I wanted to wait to read it, but I couldn’t. I’ve only read a few chapters, but oh, wow, all the feels. This book may just break me.

What I’m Writing

So, I have a confession. I’ve barely managed a few hundred words over the last week. I’m feeling a bit detached right now from my book—and the writing community in general. I’m just distracted with the impending move. There’s so much to figure out, and get done. Decluttering, fetching bits here and there, figuring out where to put everything, cleaning and organising Neil’s place, etc. Setting up my new writing space is going to be a big one, too. Plus, I’ve found another job to apply for. My head’s a bit of a shed right now. I’ll get there soon enough.

What Inspires Me Right Now

Not feeling all that inspired at the moment—not in the way of writing, anyway. I’m feeling inspired to clean and organise and sort through all Neil’s stuff (I’ve already rooted through mine, many times), so there’s that. I’m trying to remember Brooke McAlary’s notion of ’tilting’—to shift and sway in whichever direction I need to, allowing myself to focus on what’s really important at that moment. This is a transition period, and it will take a while for me to adjust. I can’t balance everything perfectly—not now, not ever.

What Else I’ve Been Up To

Working, visiting my extended family, and hanging out with my parents. Just the usual. Also, trying to catch up on everything—housework, laundry, emails, etc. So much to do!

Still busy Christmas shopping online. Most of it’s done—just have a few more bits to get. I’m keeping Christmas simple from now on. It’s far too commercialised. For me, Christmas is about spending time with the people we love, and making memories with them. Always has been, always will be.

  1. I love the idea f tilting in the direction you need too. Sometimes it’s hard to know what to deal with first and I will end of doing the non important things, just because they feel urgent!
Hope you have a good week and get your hands on Asunder sometime soon :)

  2. Moves can take up so very much of your time and energy, so not feeling writing right now is completely understandable. Balance in all things when you can, but keeping priorities straight when you can’t, I say. Hope it goes well and things settle down for you soon!

  3. I second Alexa–I love that idea, because you really can’t ever balance everything perfectly and it’s good to remember that :)

I haven’t even started Christmas shopping yet (even though all the shops seem to want me to). I like getting people things but you’re right, spending time with the ones you love is by far the most important part. Well, that and Christmas dinner!

  4. Nothing wrong with having to deal with Real World Stuff. We have to come out of our caves now and then and join the larger world. Good luck with your move and setting up that new writing space. I bet it gives you the charge you need to get back in the groove of things!
